Daughter of Drug Addict Becomes Olympic Superstar

Life hasn’t always been easy for four-time Olympic gold medallist Simone Biles who grew up with a drug addict mother and a father she never knew.

At just 19, she holds the title for the most gold medals won by an American female gymnast in a single Olympics and has a signature move named after her - “The Biles”.

But things haven’t always been this good. Simone grew up in Columbus, Ohio with drug addict parents, forcing her and her three siblings to be thrown back and forth between state and foster care and their mother’s house.

Things took a turn for the better when Simone’s grandparents decided to adopt her and her siblings when she was just 6 years old. They moved to Texas, where she was introduced to gymnastics, and was spotted by trainer and former competitive gymnast Aimee Boorman after just one year of training.

Her grandparents, who are now ‘mum’ and ‘dad’, have supported her all the way through her hectic training routines. She trains 28 hours a week and on Sunday, her only day off, she goes to church with her family.

Simone now has five Olympic medals under her belt and is an inspiration for millions around the world. She also has signed tens of millions of dollars-worth of lucrative endorsement deals.

And to think, none of this would have been possible without adoption.
